  • What do you see as the greatest benefits of the new Web 2.0 technologies? How have you used technology to transform your teaching? The Web 2.0 technologies make the web easier to navigate and much more user friendly for contributing to the online information. I have used technology to search for new information and more up to date information. I am hoping to use more technology this year and have my students be more interactive with the technology.
  • On the flip side, what do see as the greatest pitfalls of the new media? What might educators do to mitigate some of these problems? One major pitfall is that not everyone has access to the same technology. You can give students laptops to use but if they are not connected at home they are still at a disadvantage to other students that have up to date technology at home. The use of the internet to do homework can limit many students final projects. Time is another issue. I don't have enough time to do what I need to do now between school and home. I know that this can have some time and efficiency benefits, but you need time to learn the new skills. I also struggle with the time issue. constantly. When I try to explore new information online or fool around with new programs (like googledocs) I loose track of time and before I know it several hours taht I didn't have have passed me by. I don't know what the solution is! -- Grace
  • What do you think educators most need to know to navigate the new digital landscape? What technological skills are necessary? How can teachers build the skills and knowledge they need? Educators need to know how to recognize the validity of a site. They also need to know efficient ways to search for information. They best two ways to build these skills are to participate in classes or workshops and to use the technology.

  • Kim- I love this picture! This so embodies how we need to proceed without making ourselves crazy! Also, great point about how not everyone has the same access to technology. It's great to be reminded that, although people assume that it's 2009 and everybody has high-speed internet at home.... that ain't always necessarily so! - Kristy :
  • Kim - I think you know how I feel about all of this technology stuff. I really feel that until we have a level playing field for everyone that classes have been created. Assumptions have been made by too many people about the ability to access the internet. Randa
